💡 As It Was in the Days of Noah: A Precious Clue

When Jesus described the circumstances surrounding His return, He gave His disciples an unusual comparison:

“For as were the days of Noah, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.”
— Matthew 24:37

At first sight, the meaning seems obvious. People were eating, drinking, marrying and carrying on with ordinary life until judgment suddenly came.

And that is certainly part of what Jesus meant.

But there is another question worth asking:

Why did Jesus choose the days of Noah as His comparison?

🌊 The Days of Noah Were More Than Ordinary

Genesis describes Noah's generation as a civilization in profound moral and spiritual corruption.

“The earth was corrupt in God's sight, and the earth was filled with violence.”
— Genesis 6:11

But Genesis 6 contains another mysterious passage, immediately before the description of the Flood. It speaks about the “sons of God,” the “daughters of men,” and the Nephilim.

“The sons of God saw that the daughters of man were attractive. And they took as their wives any they chose.”
— Genesis 6:2

This is one of the most mysterious passages in the entire Bible.

Christians have interpreted it in different ways throughout history. Some understand the “sons of God” as angelic beings; others understand them as human rulers or members of a particular human lineage. The identity of the Nephilim is also debated.

Therefore, we should not turn one interpretation into an unquestionable doctrine.

But the mystery remains.

🧬 Could the “Days of Noah” Include More Than Moral Corruption?

Here is where an intriguing possibility arises.

Perhaps Jesus' reference to Noah is primarily about humanity's moral condition and its complete absorption in ordinary life immediately before judgment.

But perhaps the biblical pattern also invites us to pay attention to the extraordinary circumstances described in Genesis 6.

If that possibility is correct, the question becomes fascinating:

Could humanity once again create circumstances resembling the extraordinary world described before the Flood?

Not necessarily through the exact repetition of Genesis 6.

But perhaps through the creation of new forms of intelligence, biological modification, human-machine integration, or even entities that challenge the traditional boundaries of what we mean by “human.”

🤖 Humanity Is Beginning to Redefine What a “Being” Can Be

For most of human history, the distinction was simple.

There were human beings, animals and machines.

Today, that distinction is becoming philosophically and technologically more complicated.

Artificial intelligence can increasingly generate language, reason through complex problems, create images and code, operate tools and participate in scientific research.

The question is no longer simply whether computers can calculate.

What happens when humanity begins creating systems that appear increasingly autonomous, intelligent and agent-like?

We should be careful here: today's AI is not demonstrated to be a new biological species, nor does Scripture identify artificial intelligence with the Nephilim.

But the technological direction is remarkable.

The United States' Genesis Mission, launched in 2025, is designed to combine artificial intelligence, supercomputers, scientific datasets, experimental facilities and advanced technologies into an integrated scientific discovery platform.

The initiative represents an extraordinary attempt to use AI and advanced computing to accelerate scientific discovery on a massive scale.

In 2026, the initiative expanded further into areas including biomedical research, AI-driven drug discovery, biological research and biosurveillance, while NASA also joined the broader effort.

Major technology companies and research institutions are participating in this wider technological ecosystem, bringing together AI, advanced computing, robotics and quantum technologies.

None of this proves that the Genesis Mission is a fulfillment of biblical prophecy.

But it demonstrates something remarkable: humanity is entering an era in which artificial intelligence, biology, computing and physical science are increasingly converging.

And that makes Jesus' comparison with the days of Noah worth considering.

🧬 The Human Genome Is No Longer Untouchable

Another extraordinary development is occurring in biology.

Humanity can now modify biological processes with tools that previous generations could scarcely imagine.

Gene editing, genomic medicine, mRNA technologies and increasingly sophisticated biological engineering are changing what medicine can attempt.

Much of this work has enormous potential to heal suffering.

A Christian does not need to reject medicine or scientific research simply because the technology is powerful.

But power creates responsibility.

The deeper question is:

Where is the boundary between healing what is broken and redesigning what it means to be human?

🧠 Transhumanism and the Desire to Transcend Human Limitations

Transhumanist ideas take this question even further.

Some thinkers envision a future in which technology could radically extend human lifespan, enhance cognitive abilities, merge humans with machines, or eventually overcome biological limitations.

Again, these ideas are not themselves proof of biblical prophecy.

But they are significant because they reveal something about the direction of human imagination:

Humanity increasingly dreams not merely of improving life, but of transcending the human condition itself.

And that should immediately remind a Bible reader of something very ancient:

“You will be like God.”
— Genesis 3:5

The biblical warning is not against intelligence, medicine or scientific discovery.

It is against the ancient desire to transcend God's boundaries independently of God.

🐍 The Pattern of Genesis 3 and Genesis 6

There is an interesting progression in Genesis.

Genesis 3 presents the temptation to become “like God.”

Genesis 6 presents a mysterious world in which the boundaries between the heavenly, human and extraordinary appear deeply disturbed.

And then comes judgment.

This does not prove that the same mechanism will occur before Christ returns.

But it gives us a reason to watch carefully when humanity begins experimenting with boundaries that previous generations could not even approach.

⚠️ The Important Difference: We Must Not Force the Prophecy

There is an important theological safeguard here.

Matthew 24:37 does not explicitly say:

“Before Christ returns, humanity will create genetically modified beings.”

Nor does it say:

“AI will become the new species.”

Nor does it identify the Genesis Mission, gene editing, mRNA technology or transhumanism with the fulfillment of Matthew 24.

Those would be claims beyond the text.

What we can say is that Jesus deliberately chose Noah as His analogy, and Genesis 6 presents a world characterized by violence, corruption and a mysterious disruption preceding divine judgment.

That makes the question worth watching.

👁️ “As It Was” — Not Necessarily “Exactly As It Was”

The wording of Jesus is particularly interesting:

“As were the days of Noah, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.”
— Matthew 24:37

Jesus does not say that every detail of Noah's generation must be repeated.

The comparison can concern the character of the period: normal life continuing, moral corruption increasing, people unaware of the approaching judgment, and then sudden intervention from God.

But the comparison also leaves us with a fascinating possibility:

Could the final generation reproduce the spirit and perhaps some of the extraordinary conditions of Noah's world through completely new technologies?

We cannot answer that with certainty.

But we can watch.

🌍 The Real Warning May Be Bigger Than Technology

Perhaps the most important lesson is not that Christians should become obsessed with identifying a future hybrid species.

The greater warning is that humanity can become so absorbed in building its own future that it completely forgets that God is coming to judge the world.

That is exactly what Jesus emphasizes:

“They were unaware until the flood came and swept them all away.”
— Matthew 24:39

They were not necessarily sitting around waiting for judgment.

They were living.

Building.

Marrying.

Planning.

Advancing.

And then the Flood came.

🔥 A Civilization Can Become Extremely Advanced and Still Be Lost

This may be one of the most sobering lessons for our generation.

Technological advancement does not equal spiritual advancement.

A civilization can possess extraordinary intelligence while becoming increasingly foolish before God.

It can cure diseases while remaining unable to cure hatred.

It can create artificial intelligence while remaining unable to create genuine righteousness.

It can manipulate DNA while remaining unable to transform the sinful human heart.

It can build enormous scientific systems while remaining incapable of building the Kingdom of God.

Humanity may be able to redesign almost everything around itself — except the fundamental problem inside itself.

✝️ The Ark Is the Central Point

And this brings us back to Noah.

Jesus did not tell His disciples to become experts in identifying every technological development.

He told them to watch.

Noah's generation had no shortage of human activity.

What it lacked was repentance.

Noah's salvation was not found in understanding every detail of the coming Flood.

It was found in trusting God and entering the ark He provided.

For Christians, the ultimate Ark is Christ.

The question is not whether humanity will become powerful enough to reshape the world.

The question is whether humanity will recognize its Creator before judgment comes.

🌅 Watch the World — But Keep Your Eyes on Christ

Maybe the coming generation will witness technologies that today sound impossible.

Maybe AI will become vastly more autonomous.

Maybe biological engineering will cross boundaries that seem unimaginable today.

Maybe humanity will attempt to create new forms of life or intelligence.

Maybe these developments will have nothing directly to do with the final prophetic events.

We simply do not know.

But Matthew 24:37 gives us permission to ask the question.

What will the world look like when the Son of Man comes?

Jesus' answer begins with Noah.

A world living normally.

A world deeply corrupted.

A world capable of extraordinary things.

A world unaware of the approaching judgment.

And then:

The Son of Man comes.

“Therefore, stay awake.”
